This bead knitted cowl pattern is knitted in the round. The beads are knitted in as you go, and there are two different methods of bead knitting explained within the pattern. The major lace stitch is carried through from the bottom to the top, decreasing as you go, so that the bottom of the cowl forms a neck warmer, and the top covers your head. The finishing stitch is a slightly different lace stitch, that ensures that the cowl (wimple) will “hug” your head. There are so many different ways to wear this, that I’m sure that you’ll find the one that appeals to you.
This is one FO that makes the perfect holiday gift.
Skill Level: Intermediate (assuming some familiarity with lace knitting).
The stitches are both written out and charted.
The cowl in the sample was knit with 1 strand of Breathless Yarn (by Shalimar Yarns), in colorway, Thistle, and one strand of Kid Silk Haze in coordinating color. The beads are Japanese size #6 seed beads, however any medium weight fingering yarn and a strand of mohair-silk lace yarn will work for this pattern.
The sample was expertly test knitted by Jude who can be reached at uputat@yahoo.com, and is known on Ravelry as Uputat.
