Beaded Holiday Mini Sock
Note: Needlecraft University is now closed. I might offer this class in the future in another venue if there is interest. Please message me to be put on the announcement list.
It might not be the Holiday season, but learning new techniques is for all seasons. Simple beading techniques make this festive holiday miniature sock quick to knit, and the results look impressive. Use for holiday tree trimming, as a sachet filled with herbal mixtures or potpourri, as a gift box decoration, etc. I bet you won’t be able to make just one.
In this class taught by Jackie Erickson-Schweitzer (Jackie E-S), you will learn how to string beads for simple colored pattern sequences, and work a sampling of fun beaded knitting techniques. Even if you have not knit socks before, this small project is also a good intro to basics of making socks.
Finished size is approximately 4” (10 cm) overall using fingering weight yarn and size 8/0 (3 mm) seed beads.
To take this class, you should be comfortable with these basics of knitting: cast on, bind off, k, p, ssk, k2tog, p2tog and slip stitch. You should also have some experience using double point needles. If you need a refresher beforehand, check out the Knitting Library at Needlecraft University. No previous experience with beaded knitting is required.
Take this on-line class from the convenience of your home. You’ll have 4 weeks to practice, ask questions, share your progress and learn at your own pace. Just connect your computer to the internet, and the class and Discussion Board are there, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
