Beaded Honeycomb Evening Bag
This 8 by 5 beaded evening bag is constructed of two pattern stitches. The body of the bag is created with the Honeycomb stitch, with .06 beads inserted in the center of each diamond formed by the pattern. I have a photo illustration in the pattern for this process. As far as the gauge is concerned, the Honeycomb stitch is much stretchier than most so you need to swatch the pattern, inserting the beads to get the proper gauge.
The casing for the facile hex frame of the purse, is created with Stockinette. Please swatch for this stitch also. As it will be much smaller than the Honeycomb, you might need to add stitches at the beginning of the casing.
Once the knitting is completed on the purse, it is set aside as you construct the inner bag. This bag is made of cotton fabric, and is a complete bag within it self(lining and outer bag). I opted for putting in a zipper in the inside of the lining, adding a small usable pocket for credit cards, etc. Once the cotton bag is complete, the knitted bag is hand sewn to the inner bag. The casings are closed as to leave both ends open for the insertion of the assembled hex frame.
The strap for this evening bag is constructed with the Curio thread, and .0 6 beads, using the spiral rope process, that uses 5 beads per round. I have included the PDF illustration of this process in the pattern.
The 8 inch facile hex frame was purchased online at Hardware Elf. You will need to purchase “D” rings for the strap connection.
This is a creation that takes patience, but I feel it is well worth the time.
The yards are not expensive. The beads, are a little more pricy, depending on where you get them. I got mine at Knitpicks.
