Beaded in Vein Mobius
This pattern is not a tutorial on the mobius cast on – it is assumed you are already familiar. If you are not already familiar, at the very least, I highly recommend that you check out Cat Bordhi’s Intro to Moebius Knitting video on YouTube. Or even better still, if your LYS has a class teaching this great technique, take it. You will not be disappointed in the joys of mobius knitting.
Materials:
One skein Malabrigo Rios – worsted weight, 100% Superwash Merino Wool, 100g/219yds
80grams TOHO 6/0 beads (uses 1,428 beads total - may need more grams of beads depending on bead finish)
dental floss threader and fleece/flannel
US 8 circular needle 47” length
Stitch marker
Needle to weave in ends
Gauge is not critical for this project. I averaged 4 stitches per inch. Finished mobius is approximately 41 inches in circumference and 5 inches deep.
I first had the idea for this mobius years ago while playing with yarn and bead combos. My friend and indie pattern designer, Diane Augustin, almost always suggests that you “put a bead on it!” Well I did…in fact I put several on this project! I was worried about the weight of the beads; however, it has proved to be a very springy, stretchy cowl thanks to the nature of the Malabrigo Rios. The diagonal lines of beading are reminiscent of the veins of a leaf. I may have to make another in a fall colorway!
