Bean Sìdhe is the Gaelic word for a fairy, literally “woman of the earthen mounds” (referring to prehistoric landmarks which were believed to be entrances into the Otherworld).

This sexy little top requires a bit of patience, but it is easy to knit and a 100g lace skein will provide enough yardage: a wonderful opportunity to showcase that one-of-a-kind handdyed silk or the luxury fibre blend you snatched up in a sale!

S1: 64 cm / 25 ¼’’; S2: 68 cm / 26 ¾’’; S3: 72 cm / 28 ¼’’; S4: 76 cm / 30’’; M1: 80 cm / 31 ½’’; M2: 84 cm / 33’’; M3: 88 cm / 34 ½’’; M4: 92 cm / 36 ¼’’; L1: 96 cm / 37 ¾’’; L2: 100 cm / 39 ¼’’; L3: 104 cm / 41’’; L4: 108 cm / 42 ½’’ bust circumference (actual garment dimensions).

Shown in size S2 on a person with a 84 cm / 32” bust and a 90 cm / 35” hip.

The top is meant to be worn with considerable negative ease (10-15 cm = 4-6 inches) around the bust for a snug fit. It fits more loosely around the bottom edge, and the 12 sizes are grouped into three sets with slightly different proportions.
The pattern contains detailed modification advice for the waist shaping, a step-by-step guide to bust darts, and a photo tutorial for the i-cord straps.
The stitch pattern for the lace edge is charted and written.

Yarn requirements:
Size S1 = 330 m / 360 yds; size S2 = 350 m / 380 yds; size S3 = 390 m / 430 yds; size S4 = 420 m / 460 yds; size M1 = 460 m / 500 yds; size M2 = 480 m / 520 yds; size M3 = 520 m / 570 yds; size M4 = 540 m / 590 yds; size L1 = 590 m / 640 yds; size L2 = 610 m / 670 yds; size L3 = 660 m / 720 yds; size L4 = 680 m / 740 yds.

Yarn advice:
The original top was knitted with DyeForYarn’s Tussah Silk (700 m / 760 yds per 100g) in the colour “Amaranth wood on fire”. The lace detail on the front and the i-cord finishings and straps were knitted with ITO Urugami in the colour “Coke” (240 m / 262 yds per 40g).

Any laceweight or light fingering yarn can be used for this garment. Pure silk and silk blends are recommended for an elegant drape and lustre and for its thermal balancing qualities.

Tension/gauge:
34 sts / 42 rows = 10 cm / 4’’ in stockinette stitch.
The row gauge is not as important as the stitch gauge, as all lengths are given in cm / inches in the instructions.

Needle advice:
Use the needle size that gives you the required gauge, most likely 2 – 2.75 mm / US #0 - 2. You will need a medium long circular needle (80 - 100 cm / 32 - 40’’) to knit the body in one piece.

Construction:
The top is knitted bottom up in the round with darts for waist shaping. At the armholes it is split into front and back, each are finished separately knitted flat. The back is finished with an i-cord edge. Stitches are picked up around the armholes and the straps are worked as i-cords, too.

Garnempfehlungen:
Das Original wurde mit DyeForYarn Tussahseide (700 m auf 100g) in der Farbe “Amaranth wood on fire” gestrickt. Der Lochmusterstreifen am Vorderteil und die I-Cord-Abschlüsse und Träger wurden mit ITO Urugami in
der Farbe “Coke” (240 m / 262 yds per 40g) gestrickt.

Man kann praktisch jedes beliebige Lace-Garn verwenden. Seide und Seidenmischungen empfehlen sich für einen eleganten Fall und Glanz und ihre temperaturausgleichende Wirkung.

Maschenprobe:
34 M / 42 R = 10 cm glatt rechts.
Die Reihenzahl ist weniger relevant, da alle Längen in cm angegeben werden.

Nadeln:
Verwende die Nadelstärke, mit der die angegebene Maschenprobe erreicht wird, wahrscheinlich 2 – 2.75 mm. Es wird eine Rundstricknadel in 80 - 100 cm Länge benötigt.

Konstruktion:
Das Top wird von unten nach oben in der Runde gestrickt, Taillierung durch Abnäher. An den Achseln wird es in Vorder- und Rückenteil geteilt und flach weitergestrickt. Das Rückenteil wird mit einem I-Cord beendet. Für die Träger werden an den Armausschnitten Maschen aufgenommen und ebenfalls I-Cords gestrickt.
