Bear Rug
The Bear Rug can have many uses - the floor of a nursery or bedroom, a rug or blanket for creative play, or throw it on the foot of your bed for Fido or FluffyMcSnowball to sleep on, to prevent pet hair from getting on your bedding.
Experiment with gauge. A looser gauge will produce a bear that is more suited as a blanket or bed covering, while a tighter gauge will produce a bear that is more suited to a rug. I have knitted very thick rugs by using 3 strands of yarn (2 strands of the Red Heart super saver in ivory, and one strand of the Light and Lofty). As well, experiment with different types, brands, and weights of yarn. I find that the rug looks best when a plain strand is paired with a “fluffier” strand.
The whole rug is worked in garter stitch (knit every row), which gives it added texture, as well as ensuring that the edges do not curl. The finished rug will measure approximately 36 inches from the bottom of the feet to the tip of the nose, with about 16 inches across the belly section.
