Bea’s Baby Blankie
My husband’s Grandma Bea was one of the most prolific crocheters I have ever known. She was always working on a blanket, doily or sweater. One of the things she enjoyed making the most was baby items. For each of our two children, she sent us a complete knitted layette with four sets of sweaters, hats and booties in varying sizes. A knitter myself, receiving these sets was one of the highlights of my pregnancies. Sadly, Grandma Bea passed away shortly after our daughter was born. But I will never forget her generosity and bubbly laughter that she brought to any occasion. I hope this baby blanket named for Bea, with its fun stripes and honeycomb pattern, brings joy to many parents and babies. It’s a great stash buster and a fun and colorful addition to any nursery. It is lightweight, using DK yarn. And the versatile size, of 25 inches by 32 inches, makes it perfect for draping over a carseat or swaddling your little one.
Materials:
825 yards of DK weight yarn: 425 yards of main color (white with speckles in sample) and about 150 yards of 3 contrasting colors (light pink, medium pink, and light yellow in sample.) Feel free to get creative with your color choices and use up yarn from your stash.
