Beauty and the Beast Socks - basic, beginner friendly sock pattern
The pattern uses one yarn for the cuff, heel and toes and another for the leg and foot. It’s a canvas to create your own funky color combo!
The socks are knitted in the round from the cuff down starting with 1 by 1 rib. The socks feature a reinforced French heel. Old Norwegian cast-on / German Twisted cast-on is recommended to be used as the cast-on method. The last stiches of the foot are bound off using Kitchener stitch.
There are two adult sizes for the socks, the leg and foot length being adjustable.
To make this pattern beginner friendly, only a limited number of abbreviations are being used and the pattern includes an extensive list of links to relevant tutorials.
Techniques
Old Norwegian Cast-on / German Twisted Cast-on
Kitchener Stitch
The pattern includes links to tutorials covering the techniques above.
Sizes
Two adult sizes with finished sock measurements of
Foot circumference 18.5 (20.5) cm / 7 1/2 (8 1/4) inches
Foot length 23 (25.5) cm / 9 1/4 (10 1/4) inches
Cuff - bottom of the heel length 21 (23.5) cm / 8 1/2 (9 1/2) inches
Choose a size that gives around 2 cm / ¾ inches of negative ease in foot circumference (i.e. a size approximately 2 cm / ¾ inches smaller than the actual foot circumference). The leg and foot length are adjustable and for the foot length aim for 1.3 cm / ½” shorter than the actual foot length.
