I have completely revised this pattern as of June 2015, to correct errors and make it more compatible with my current designs. This is the basic pattern I use for all of my dolls - only the hair, clothes, and colors change.

This is the first pattern I ever wrote. As I rarely use patterns when I crochet, writing them is difficult for me, and there may still be some errors which I may not be able to tell you how to correct! :)

I use 2-ply yarn and a size 4 (1.75 mm) steel crochet hook to make 6-inch dolls. They can be also made with 4-ply worsted weight yarn and a size F hook for a larger doll.
