What You’ll Learn
1. How to crochet the Moss Stitch
Also known as the granite stitch or crackle stitch.
It is made by alternating a single crochet (sc) and a chain stitch (ch) in the same row.
Typically, you work a sc, ch 1 in the same stitch, and in the next stitch, you work a sc again (or a sc in the chain space, depending on the row).
This pattern creates a dense, textured fabric.
1. How to crochet Ribbing
Each row of your ribbing has 5 single crochet stitches worked into the back loops of the previous row, which creates the raised ribbing texture.

Gauge
10 rows and 15 sts in hdc with a 4.5 mm hook = 10 cm x 10 cm (4” x 4”).

Size
Height by width = H: 16.5 cm (6.5 inches) W: 12.5 cm (5 inches)

Yardage
Approx. = 55 m (60 yards)

Notes
- This pattern uses the Moss Stitch, which can also be called the Granite Stitch. It alternates between sc and ch stitches in the same row.

  • You can make the pattern larger or smaller by changing the type of yarn and/or hook size.

  • Numbers at the end of each row (in brackets) indicate the number of final stitches in that row.

  • Please note that I use US crochet terms. Here’s a US/UK Conversion Chart.
