Hats are a great way to learn shaping skills and this beginner’s beret is a great example. You’ll be using ribbing for the band, and then increasing and decreasing to give the classic round beret shape.

It’s a quick knit once you get started as you’ll be using chunky yarn- why not go for a tweedy chunky as the photo shows here? If you’re right on trend you can take a look at the blog and add a final flourish with a tassel or pom-pom!

Who is this for?
This pattern is ideal for you if you’re a beginner knitter, who is looking to learn increasing and decreasing skills independently to create the classic beret shape.

The pattern is also part of the Novice Knitter’s course. So if you’d rather learn with step-by-step video lessons, check out the details here.
