Behind blue eyes
15% off until Sunday 16.9. midnight (European time). No coupon code needed.
“Behind blue eyes” features a unique construction: you start with a small triangle at center upper back, work your way up the back, back and forth, in triangle shape,up to the shoulders. Then you add the front neck, filling up the back corners at the same time. Then you continue TOP DOWN from the shoulders to the underarms, picking up sleeve stitches from the side edges of the back for the sleeves which are now being worked at the same time, so the piece is completely seamless. After that, you pick up stitches from the bottom edge of the upper back and start working in rounds, keeping up (but flattening) the V shape on the front.
Two (simple) back pleats add even more visual interest to the back.
Caution: this pattern is intended for more experienced knitters
(although every step is described in detail on 12 pages, with instruction tables for every new type of stripe repeat, so adventurous beginners will find their way, too).
Available sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL with bust width 88/ 96/ 104/ 112/ 120cm.
Recommended ease: 0-5cm
(to ensure a good fit at the shoulders - for a bit more room at the bust, you could pick up up more stitches at the underarm).
Yarn requirements:
1400-1800m of a Light Fingering yarn which gives you gauge, distributed between 2 colors: 780/ 840/ 900/ 960/ 1020 meters of the color used for the bottom edge and 620/ 660/ 700/ 740/ 780 m of the other color.
It is recommended to use a yarn with some elasticity, which grows a bit when blocked, with the ability to even out little bulges which occur during knitting, due to the construction (i.e. no pure linen yarn etc.).
Samples were worked in
* Skudderia (former ‘Das Regenbogenschaf’) Merino Baby (440m/
100g) - the blue one
and
* Skudderia Pinta - the Peach Melba sample.
BTW, the German nick name for this pattern is “Streifenhörnchen” (chipmunk, but in German, the name includes the word “stripes”).
Thank you to all of my test knitters!
