A bit of a backstory of how this shawl came to life.
I shared with one of my Patrons, Christina, that I wanted to design an exclusive pattern for Knit Graffiti Patrons. She had the brilliant idea to showcase stitch patterns beloved by each Patron, so that the shawl would actually represent all of the wonderful people who are showing me amazing support. I included them on every step of the way, from helping to choose the yarn combo, to choosing which stitch patterns were represented. This pattern has been such a joy to create, and I truly hope you enjoy it!

Skill level:
Intermediate. This shawl is full of some of my favorite stitch patterns, some brioche stitch patterns that I developed myself, and some that I’ve used in several of my other designs. Two-color brioche, linen stitch, twisted rib, short rows, three-color moss brioche, and a bit of lace…there are so many fun techniques to learn and enjoy.

Techniques used:
Twisted German Cast On, knit, purl, knit increases and decreases, yarn-overs, slipping stitches, brioche purl (brp), brioche knit (brk), bias shawl shaping, knitting into the back loops, slipping stitches, short rows (no wrap & turn), brioche increases and decreases, Elastic Bind Off.

Construction Notes:
Sometimes we can plan a shawl to the very last detail, and yet it still becomes something completely different. This rectangle or parallelogram-shaped shawl is knit on the bias, beginning and ending with a funky short row wedge. You will be alternating between several different stitch patterns, all chosen by my Patrons. The shawl begins with garter stitch short rows, then moving to linen stitch stripes, lace, twisted rib, and two of my favorite brioche stitch patterns that I developed. The center focal point is a three-color moss brioche wedge, where you will bring in all three of your colors for a striking texture. The remainder of the shawl is a mirror image of the first half, except you will be changing up your colors.

I love wearing this shawl draped loosely over my shoulders to keep off the chill of a summer evening. It can also be wrapped tightly around your neck for colder days.

This pattern has both written instructions as well as charts for all brioche and lace sections.

» One size:
67” / 170 cm long and 20” / 51 cm wide, measured after blocking.

» Gauge:
27 sts and 36 rows = 4” / 10 cm; measured in garter stitch knit flat (taken after blocking).

1275 yds / 1166 m Light Fingering / Sock weight
Color A: 457 yds / 418 m
Color B: 386 yds / 353 m
Color C: 432 yds / 395 m

» Shown in: Barnyard Knits Merino Nylon Fingering (75% Superwash Merino, 25% Nylon; 463 yds / 420 m per 100 g)
A: 1 skein in Sweet Juliet (pink)
B: 1 skein in Tidal Wave (blue)
C: 1 skein in A Walk in the Woods (green)

» Needles:
32” / 81 cm US 4 / 3.5 mm circular needles
Circular needles are used to accommodate a large number of stitches and for two-color brioche knitting. Adjust needle size as needed to obtain proper gauge.

» Tools:
Tapestry needle, row counter, locking stitch marker or cable needle for use with decreasing brioche stitches, 6 stitch markers for noting pattern repeats
