Pattern has instructions for two versions of the beanie.

It can’t be much simpler, yet the hat has an elegant feel and look. The clever rolling edge ensures a perfect fit. It is worked in the round, from the bottom up. Instructions are given for two versions of the beanie, a snug-fitting and a little longer version with some ease without being slouchy. The pattern is well suited for a quick beginner’s project and contains detailed instructions for how to graft the top of the hat together using Kitchener stitches to produce an invisible seam.

Two strands of the softest mink and a delicious merino wool are used for the hat. I have chosen two shades of gray, a light gray, thin mink fiber, and a darker and a little heavier merino wool. The darker gray base color and the lighter contrast, blends in very nicely, and the slight contrast emphases the hat’s softness. Use your favorite yarn for the hat, wool or wool blends will be best suited. I recommend not to use alpaca, bamboo or likewise, because of their lack of memory.

Mink yarn is produced from combing mink. The shorter, finer fibers of the undercoat are used for spinning the yarn resulting in very soft, insulation and lightweight fibers.

Size:
One Size - small to medium, to fit a head circumference of about 21 inches (54 cm). Finished measurement: 19 inches (48 cm).

Materials:
Snug fitting: 150 m lace (merino) and 150 m fine lace yarn (mink or angora) held double OR 150 m sock yarn. Loose fitting: 200 m lace (merino) and 200 m fine lace yarn (mink or angora) held double OR 200 m sock yarn. Choose a yarn that keeps its elasticity.

Needles:
16” (40 cm) circular needles size US 2.5 (3.0 mm) and US 4 (3.5 mm). A set of 5 douple pointed needles US 4 (3.5 mm) or needles needed to optain gauge.
