Bejeweled
There is a scene at the end of the first Hobbit movie where the director pans through the treasure vault inside the Lonely Mountain. You see green scales peeking out from piles of jewels and treasure. Everything seems peaceful and then….Smaug’s eye suddenly opens.
This scene from the Hobbit inspired another shawl — Bejeweled. The slight boomerang shape is embellished with eyelets spotted with beads reflecting the jewels in the Lonely Mountain. I envisioned Smaug’s back and tail sparking with jewels as I created the border. The alternating spike sizes provide some whimsical fun.
This shawl is knit side to side. The border is knit simultaneously with the main field of the shawl. The beads are added with a crochet hook as you knit.
