Bell Tower Brimmed Hat
A hat that goes everywhere, dressed up or down, keeps you warm, keeps the sun out of your eyes, and looks great. Perfect for dressy occasions when you want to be warmer than everyone else who was too cool to wear a hat (or just, you know, for running errands). Plus, it’s a very fast gift idea. New edition features: 6 sizes, including new children’s sizes, both written and charted instructions, and more.
Yarn: Any super bulky wool yarn. Approx. 60-64 yds/55-59 m (small/medium child), 95-100 yds/ 87-92 m (teen/small adult), 120-130yds/ 110-119 m for (medium/large adult). Shown in: Brown Sheep Burly Spun (132 yds/121 m, 226 g./7.97 oz.) in color “Wild Oak” (teen size), and “Grassy Knoll” (medium adult size). Also shown in Cascade Eco-Cloud in color “2109 Ruby” with yarn held double (small child size). Less than 1 skein used.
Gauge: 2.5 sts/in, (10 sts/ 4 ins, 10 sts/10cm) in pattern stitch.
Needles: 16-in circular needle and DPNs, in size needed to get gauge. I used US size 10 1⁄2 (6.5mm)

Notions: Optional. A satin or cotton ribbon to weave through your brim for a bow. Mine is 58in/147cm long. Get several colors and swap them to suit your mood, or your outfit.
Skills: Cast on, cast off, knit in the round, use double-pointed needles, knit, purl, knit though back loop, M1 purl- wise (increase), K2tog, SSK, SK2P, and P3tog (decreases), picking up sts from cast-on edge.
Accessibility Notes: All charted sections also written, 12 point serif font with bolded headings, no columns (except for abbreviation key).
Updated: 5/15/17 with new sizes, charts, and other improvements. If you’re working from the older (free) version, please consider giving the new one a try!
