Bellamy Cowl
The Bellamy Cowl is a warm and snug, fully lined fairisle cowl - it has a botanical theme, designed to compliment the Bellamy Hat.
Special Offer - buy the matching hat as well - Bellamy Hat - and save 30% on the second pattern. Add both to your cart. (Previous purchases apply for Ravelry members but the pattern must be in your Ravelry library.)
Different needle sizes are used to add some shaping, allowing it to flare out at the bottom edge and sit the shoulders. The lining, as
well as adding warmth, lends support to help keep it upright when wearing.
Size (when blocked)
Circumference - 22” at top edge and 27” at bottom edge. Approx 6.5” high.
Materials
I used Shetland yarn from my stash to match the hat pattern (my colours listed below) - and as it’s a snug fit, I chose to line it with a really soft merino/alpaca blend, to be sure it doesn’t irritate.
If you have already made the hat and used the suggested colours, you should have enough yarn left and will only need to add the background colour and lining yarn.
Alternatively, you can use 4 ply from your own stash, in as many - or as few colours as you would like!
Special techniques used -
Stranded knitting, provisional cast on, 3 needle bind off
The pattern includes full colour charts for the main body and lining, plus a black and white chart which might be easier to follow if you choose your own colours.
My colour choices
I opted to go for lots of colours, in small amounts, from my stash. For the main body, there are 12 colours plus the background. But you can just as easily use just one or two shades of green, one pink, one mauve, one blue etc - or use your preferred colours.
Spindrift -
Prairie, Moorgrass, Rye, Lipstick, Teviot, Dog Rose
J&S 2 ply -
FC11 mix, FC22 mix, 131 mix, 9144, 123 mix, 133 mix
I hope you enjoy making it and please do share yours with #bellamycowl
Happy Knitting!!
