Summary: Deep v-neck cardigan with button closure, ribbing to shape at waist, 1/2 length bloused sleeves, knit in a chunky yarn.

Pattern Description from Interweave Knits, Fall 2007: “The simplest stitches - reverse stockinette, stockinette and ribbing - have maximum impact when Wenlan Chia combines them with a nipped-waist silhouette and bold details in her Belle Cardigan. A peplum flows into waist ribbing, while the drapey sleeves are joined with the body using short rows.”

Finished Size: 24¾ (29½, 34½, 39½)“/63 (75, 87.5, 100.25) cm bust circumference, buttoned, including 2½” wide front band. Note: Garment is styled with negative wearing ease for a close, body-conscious fit; select a size about 4” to 6” (10 to 15 cm) less than your actual bust.

Yarn: Twinkle Soft Chunky (100% wool; 83 yd 76 m/200 g): #08 white, 4 (5, 5, 6) skeins. Yarn distributed by Classic Elite.

Needles: Sizes 17 (12 mm) and 19 (15.5 mm): 24” (60cm) circulars (cir). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Markers (m); stitch holders; tapestry needle; two 1¾“ (4.5cm) buttons.

Notes:

  • Lower body is worked in one piece to the armholes. After the sleeves have been completed, the back, fronts, and sleeves are joined for the yoke and worked in one piece to the end, with modified raglan shaping for the armholes and short-row shaping at the neck edge.
  • Measure body length with stockinette stitch section at lower edge unrolled. Finished garment will measure about 1” shorter than shown on schematic with lower edge rolled naturally to the right side.
