BELLE OF THE BALL featured as a TOP 10 finalist entry in a Vogue Knitting Live Design Contest, (San Francisco) in 2018. The Magic Mohair Design Contest coincided with the release of Faerie Knitting, a beautiful book of stories and knitting designs, put together by Alice Hoffman and Lisa Hoffman. Their book was released there and the designs in the book were modeled at the event. There was also a parade of the 10 contest finalist designs, and this design was modeled there along with some stunningly beautiul designs .

The main Stitch Pattern is taken from a Barbara Walker Book and this is separated by bands of stockinette, which help to produce an effective, embossed look. A cable needle is required.

The garment is worked (mainly) flat, from the bottom up, and features a rarely seen, rolled edge hem. It is shaped towards the shoulder area and up into the neck area, where it is offset by a lateral braid.

It is then joined to work in the round, so it may be easily slipped over the head. A picot bind off is worked to finish the garment. The ribbon has been stitched on afterwards for the ‘fairy tale’ appearance.
