This pattern is also available for purchase in the Bellejouanne Ensemble eBook which includes the Bellejouanne Tam, Beanie Cowl, and Mitts patterns.

Alternating cables that incorporate a touch of lace add texture and dimension to the Bellejouanne Cowl. The cowl is worked from the bottom up and in-the-round.

Both written and charted instructions are included.

Yarn:
140 - 190 yards (128 – 174 meters)
Worsted weight if using wool or wool blends
DK weight if using alpaca or other animal fiber with less memory

Wool and wool blends will tend to have more memory and will spring back to shape. A luxury blend like Road to China Light will have a softer drape and less memory, so a lighter weight is recommended.

See pattern notes for directions for using a bulky weight yarn on US 11 (8.0 mm) needles.

Gauge:

  • 17 sts x 26 rows over 4 inches (10cm) in St st
  • 27 sts x 26 rows over 4 inches (10cm) in Cabled Section pattern with wool or wool blend (fiber with elasticity and memory)
  • 22 sts x 26 rows over 4 inches (10cm) in Cabled Section pattern with Road to China Light (luxury fiber with less memory and softer drape)

Finished Dimensions:

  • 7 inch (17.8 cm) height x 19 inch (48.3 cm) circumference with plenty of stretch in worsted weight wool or wool blends
