CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE PATTERN
Cozy up in a thick, soft, colorful scarf that is way easier and quicker to make than it looks. This chic and modern piece works up quickly thanks to the large needle size and super bulky yarn, and the bias (diagonal) knitting makes it fun and interesting to work up. The “choose your own adventure” pattern gives you the flexibility to decide when to transition between sections, depending on the color changes in your yarn or when you want to change color.

If you’re using ombre yarn, then you change to the next section when the color changes. If you’re using three colors of yarn, then you simply choose when to switch out to the next color, and section.

Inspired by the Belmond Royal Scotsman train, which travels through the Scottish Highlands, this is the scarf I wish I’d had while I was lucky enough to travel the Highlands and watch the colors gradually turn during a beautiful (and chilly) Scottish spring, all the while thinking Outlander thoughts. :)

NOTE ON YARN WEIGHTS - this pattern is adaptable! While the original was made in super bulky yarn, the pattern is adaptable to other sizes of yarn if you have more ombre in your stash. You’d need to adapt the gauge and # of cast-on stitches to accomodate the required 20” length of the cast on, but the pattern works for any weight yarn.

DIMENSIONS
The finished scarf/wrap is a generously sized 20” wide by 76” long, sure to keep you (or your lucky giftee) warm in cold weather.

YARN
The original was worked in Yarn Bee’s Turin, an ombre super bulky yarn that has long self-striping color and pretty changes. There aren’t many ombre super bulky yarns available, so while suggestions have been made on this page, you can use solids and rotate through them. You can also use other weights - see note on yarn weights above.

MATERIALS
This one’s easy - just size US 15 knitting needles (I used circular because that’s my preference, but straight works if that’s yours), and yarn.

DIFFICULTY
This is good for beginners who have some experience with the basic patterns - stockinette, reverse stockinette, and garter. The bias (diagonal) nature of this pattern makes it a bit more interesting to knit. To create that diagonal, M1, M1P, and K2TOG TBL are required. A stitch glossary is included.
