Beneath the Pines is a bulky weight shawlette, in a simple but satisfying triangle shape. A pretty pine cone lace stitch is repeated and a clean garter stitch trims the edge.

The 2 plies of super bulky yarn are separated and used for the fringe, creating an organic look, mimicking handspun roving.

Finished Measurements:
Overall width is approximately 55” and length from cast on to center point is approximately 28”.

Techniques used:

  • Knitting a Garter Tab (video link provided)

  • Simple lace stitches, yo’s, k2tog and ssk.

  • Reading from a chart.

  • Blocking your finished shawl.

  • Applying fringe with a crochet hook. (9mm)

Needles/Notions:

  • Size US #17 (12.75mm) Circular Needles, at least 40” long for working back and forth. (Note: The suggested gauge for super bulky is US #15, but the
larger sized needles create more drape and open up the stitch pattern better.)

  • (1) Size #19 (15mm) short needle or DPN for bind off

  • (1) Crochet Hook, around 9mm

Yarn:
At least 250 yards of Super Bulky weight wool. This includes the fringe. Gauge swatch will require even more yardage.
If you would like to make the shawl even longer, it is easily adaptable . Just work more repeats and continue increasing.
