This pattern is very simple. You work the trunk from top to bottom and crochet the leaves (balls) separately and then attach to the trunk.

You simply need yarn, stuffing, a G hook, plastic safety eyes, and some scrap felt. No embroidering necessary.
I myself have difficulty embroidering mouths and eyes, so I have made something cute with simpler ways!
