Bermia incorporates 2 different cable patterns in varying lengths as well as twisted stitches to create a cozy hat that keeps the knitter entertained while working up fairly quickly. Knit in an Aran weight yarn, Bermia is designed to fit snugly to keep the wearer warm during cold weather activities. Wear it on a winter hike or while working outdoors, or while sipping some java at the local coffee shop. Bermia is versatile enough to accompany you anywhere your winding path takes you.

This pattern is offered in one size. It should fit most adult heads, but is meant to fit snugly. If using a natural fiber like wool or a wool blend, blocking is critical to open up the purl sections and loosen the cables. Your hat may seem tight before blocking, but after blocking it should be just right. If you’re worried about sizing, you might want to consider going up a needle size (though this will affect your yardage).

Gauge swatch should be knit in the round on larger needles. Gauge should be measured after wet blocking.

Approximately 120 yds of Aran weight yarn, preferably wool or a wool blend. This pattern works best with solids, semi-solids or gentle variegates so the cables and colors don’t fight each other, but you’re welcome to use wilder variegates or any color your heart desires.
