Bernie the Buffalo
Bernie the Buffalo is the cutest little guy with his characteristic horns and big, green bow.
Bernie features in my Zoo Friends ebook - there’s 4 new designs and 2 bonus designs - and available as a single pattern download.
Bernie is an intermediate amigurumi (crochet) pattern written in English using US (American) terminology. The pattern includes detailed instructions in an easy to follow layout but a knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques used to make amigurumi is essential.
Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished item. My Bernie is approx. 15cm tall.
You will need:
- 2.5mm hook/C-2 (US)
- 8ply yarns/DK or Light Worsted, 50g TAN, 25g in CHARCOAL, GREEN and PURPLE
- BLACK 4ply yarn or embroidery thread
- A pair of 9mm safety eyes
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Polyester toy stuffing
- Stitch marker (optional)
Notes:
- Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round and a yarn with no stretch is best.
- When changing colour, pull through the new colour on the stitch before you need it. This will ensure that you have the correct colour yarn on the hook for the upcoming stitch.
- Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
- I’ve used the following yarns: o TAN = Ricorumi DK by Rico Design in col. 066 Clay o CHARCOAL = Ricorumi DK by Rico Design in col. 080 Slate o GREEN = Ricorumi DK by Rico Design in col. 045 Pastel Green o PURPLE = Ricorumi DK by Rico Design in col. 072 Lavender
- I have used safety eyes but you may choose to embroider. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
