Bespoken has two meanings that apply to this sweater. It was customized to my husband’s wishes, and I like that this word also means “engaged to be married.” Though we are already married, this is the first sweater I made for him, or any man for that matter. Fearing the “sweater curse” I held off on even considering knitting a sweater for him until we were married. Bespoken implies a measure of commitment. I created this design for my husband, who enjoys looking well-groomed without being overly fussy.

This sweater is worked flat in separate pieces, then sewn together. I like working sweaters this way for the durability that comes from seaming, the more closely tailored fit of a set-in sleeve, and the portability of the project as you work on it. Sample shown is worn with 1.5” of positive ease.

Instructions are provided for seven men’s chest sizes. If the intended wearer is tall, you may want to add additional length to the body and sleeves.

Making a gauge swatch is a crucial element of any fitted garment. For best results, swatch in stockinette and the cable patterns as worked in the pattern, and block the swatch in the way that you plan on treating the finished garment. The cable panel, comprising a large cable between 2 small cables, should measure 5” in width.

This sweater uses approximately 6 ( 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12) balls of Cascade 220 worsted weight yarn.
