Bessbrook
Bessbrook is a crescent-shaped shawl designed and written by an experienced knitting educator. Starting from a garter-tab cast on, this “just right”-sized shawl grows into rows of soothing garter stitch dotted with simple eyelets, suitable for companionship and conversation as you knit along.
Once you complete the body, you are ready to work the knit-on edging, incorporating delicate lace and plump cables for an eye-catching finish. As you cast off your last stitches, you will glow with pride at the beautiful, shoulder-hugging, looks-perfect-any-way-you-style-it shawl that clearly highlights your dedication to your craft and an excellence that will be recognized by many an admirer.
The pattern comes with 9 pages of thoughtfully-written instructions that teach all the skills necessary to complete the shawl while answering your knitting questions along the way. This long, narrow shawl includes a new technique for achieving the perfect, shoulder-hugging shape, as well as instructions for modifying yarn weight and shawl size, for a pattern that is re-knittable and customizable again and again.
This pattern is well within the capabilities of an adventurous beginner but interesting enough for an experienced knitter to enjoy.
The lace pattern is both written and charted format.
Bessbrook is the first in a collection of “shoulder-hugging” shawls.
Thank you to my test knitters: Elaine, Janette, Lynn, Nadine and Rae.
