I was thinking of Rudyard Kipling’s Just So Stories as I worked on this design…How the Leopard Got His Spots and all the other ingenious tales he spun for his friends’ children. Knitting is a bit like that.

Best Beloved is a matching set of hat and mittens for girls from about 4 to 12 years of age (3 sizes are included in the pattern) and they are covered in motifs of hearts and flowers. The pieces are knit in the round from complete charts (and written instructions) using standard techniques. By special request of my daughter, the mittens include your Best Beloved’s initials on the thumbs—a very popular design element, based on my girl research! A complete alphabet is included, and an alternate floral motif.
