The Betangled Hat is a garter-stitch hat with a ribbed brim. On one side of the hat, the ribbing flows smoothly into a dramatic cabled twist flanked by two smaller twists. The cables gradually decrease in size as they approach the crown of the hat, while the garter-stitch section of the hat decreases smoothly in concentric rings.

The hat can be worn as a slouchy hat, with the ribbing down, or as a cap, with the ribbing folded up to form a brim. Pom poms are optional!

Sized to fit average youth/adult head (21-24”/53-61 cm)
Circumference at widest point: 22”/56 cm
Height from base of brim to top of crown: 9”/23 cm

Yarn
Approximately 210 yds/192 m of worsted-weight yarn

Needles
For optional Tubular Cast-On:
US size 4/3.5 mm 16”/40 cm circular needle (or three sizes smaller than size necessary to achieve gauge)

For ribbed brim:
US size 5/3.75 mm 16”/40 cm circular needle (or two sizes smaller than size necessary to achieve gauge)

For body of hat:
US size 7/4.5 mm 16”/40 cm circular needle and double-pointed needles (or size necessary to achieve gauge)

Note: Instead of 16”/40 cm circular needles, you may use double-pointed needles or magic loop using 40”/100 cm needles
