This is a pattern for a light weight shawl. It is suitable for a beginner + knitter. It’s heavier than a wedding ring shawl, but just the ideal weight for a spring or fall evening, or even if you’re sensitive to air conditioning in the summer. It knits up fairly quickly and would make the ideal gift, for yourself of someone that’s special to you.
The shawl is made up of two different lace stitches that are both charted and written out line by line. The focal lace stitch is a variation of different geometric lace patterns, while the border stitch is a famous old Shetland textured stitch that lends a lot of interest to the FO. The final size is 22 inches by 74 inches.
There are also instructions for an optional edging contained within the pattern, should you want it edged.
Skill Level: Beginner + - Intermediate (assuming a basic knowledge of lace knitting). It is suitable for a beginner with a little bit of lace experience.
The yarn used in the sample is Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sportmate in the colorway, undyed. It requires approximately 1100 yards of yarn and is knit on a size (U.S.) #5 needle.
The shawl was expertly test knitted by Beverly Long, who can be reached at: Blong39@ hotmail.com.
