I love the African Flower animal patterns here on Ravelry, but they take such a lot of time to make so I started thinking about making a mobile telephone cover using the flower - quick, simple and eye catching! Whilst experimenting with the shapes a happy coincidence occurred! The shapes when folded a certain way, looked like a little owl! And so Betoto was born!

So here is my pattern for the lovely little Betoto who can be used to protect your mobile phone, stuffed and turned into a little toy and as one of my testers pointed out turned into a gorgeous bag for little ones if you chain a strap from ear to ear.

If the size of yarn and hook specified are used and the gauge is matched Betoto measures 5.75 inches high and 3.25 inches wide - it fits my Samsung Galaxy SIII Mini and my husband’s larger Galaxy SII.

Yarn: Less than 25g each of 3/Light/Worsted/ DK/8ply yarn in three or four colours as well as a small amount of black and white yarn

Hook: G (4mm)

NOTE: This pattern is very versatile! Depending on the size you are wanting, you could try making a bigger Betoto using a larger weight yarn and/or hook or even make the motifs using dc’s rather than hdc’s

Gauge: Pentagon motif when worked with hook and yarn specified measures 3.25inches high and 3.25inches wide
