Meet our knit betta fish. She’s cute and cuddly and looking absolutely fabulous with her beautiful fins.

This betta fish is suitable for advanced beginner knitters and assumes an understanding of basic stitches and other standard knitting terms. Our Betta Fish is knit flat and sewn together using a mattress stitch.

If you’re new to knitting stuffed friends or are uncomfortable winging it without strict guidelines (that’s OK, we all need good directions sometimes to help us out) you will need approximately 12 m of medium weight light blue yarn for the body and approximately 22 m of medium weight dark blue yarn for the fins. With this yarn, use 4 mm (US size 6) needles. You will also need a small amount of black yarn for the face, stuffing (we use ecofil or wool) and a tapestry needle to sew your Betta Fish together. This will let you create a betta fish that’s approximately 15 cm (6 inches) in length and 13 cm (5 inches) high.

The beauty of knitting stuffed friends is that this pattern can be knit in any size yarn with accompanying needles. Generally we find using a size or two smaller needles than required by the yarn allows for the tightness needed when you’re stuffing your finished product.
