Bette Bed Jacket
The Bette bed jacket is modeled after the beautifully detailed, frilly “bedroom jacket” peignoirs that were popular in the 1950’s and 1960’s, designed to be worn over lingerie. I originally conceptualized the design when I was wanting a light piece to layer over some of my ~special occasion~ garments that would be versatile and comfortable, but would still look and feel fancy. The knit fabric gives more weight to the structure, resulting in a garment that maintains the pretty glamour of the original bed jackets but is practical enough to be worn in public!
This garment is worked with i-cord edges from the curved hem up to the shoulders. The ruffle hem is picked up after finishing the body, and the sleeves are then worked separately and then set in. Instructions are given for adding body length and for six sleeve options. This garment is knit with one strand of fingering held double with one strand of mohair.
