Meant as a simple early two-color brioche project, or an easy knit for those already more familiar with these techniques, this .PDF results in a pretty nice headband, and works up relatively quickly, for brioche, in velvety-soft 100% wool Malabrigo Yarn Chunky.

It comes in a size to fit average adults, and knits up in under 100 yards of Malabrigo Chunky. You’ll need a main and a contrasting color, but you should be able to get two headbands out of 2 skeins of yarn.

Gauge is 9.5sts and 16 rows in 4” in brioche rib pattern, unblocked. Gauge is important to the fit of this project. Needle size needed varies by the individual. Please be sure to check your gauge.

(I’m using the standard brioche row count, which means two rows of work=one row finished, basically only counting the MC rows.)

In addition to the yarn, you’ll also need:
-one 16” circular needle in size for gauge (most knitters will need to start in the US 9/10/5.5-6.0mm range, but be sure to check! Needle size varies. Gauge is important to fit for this project.)
-one tapestry needle to weave in ends
-a stitch marker, to mark the end of round.

The skill level is intermediate; it uses basic brioche stitches and terms.

(Quick note: This will probably look much nicer if you use one CC with good contrast; I knit the sample (2/14) with MC: Tuareg and CC: scraps of Vaa and Emerald Blue. The contrast between Tuareg and Emerald Blue is not nearly as nice, and I’d have stuck with Tuareg & Vaa if I hadn’t been working with leftovers.)
