big fish
a simple colour-work pattern on superbulky yarn sure to satisfy the fisherman in your life. made with an acrylic/wool/rayon mixed yarn, this hat is machine washable and can be put in the dryer on low – a bonus when gifting to a no-nonsense kinda person (like my brother-in-law, the inspiration for the design and the recipient of one of these warm hats).
construction: knit in the round from the bottom up.
chart is provided for creating the fish
you only need about half a skein of the MC (approx 60 yards), and maybe one quarter of the CC’s (approx 30 yards each)
errata: there’s a slight error on the chart. at the very top, where there’s alternating black and white stitches, i forgot to colour in a black square on the far right. so it looks like you start the repeat with 2 whites when in fact, it should be just like the rest of the row: black, white, black, white etc. i’ll update the chart as soon as i can.
also, i think i did 6 rows of rib instead of 5 when compared to a test knitter. doesn’t make a huge different but feel free to do an extra row or two either in the rib or in the MC above the chart if you want a slightly longer/slouchier hat.
