Big Hearts baby blanket
This is a pattern to crochet the Big Hearts blanket which is covered in hearts to show precious new members of the family how much he or she is appreciated and loved. Wouldn’t it look great on any baby’s cot, pram or stroller? Make one as a christening or baby shower gift or give it to a special dog or cat instead!
After payment you will have access to two files, one is written in UK terminology and the second is written in US terminology. It is 22 pages long and in full colour with photo tutorials comprising no fewer than 36 instructional photographs walking you through everything.
The yarn recommended for this pattern is Garnstudio Drops Baby Merino but any yarn of a similar weight (Sport or 4/5 ply) and suitable for babies may be substituted. To make the blanket shown a total of 9 x 50g (1,575m) of yarn was used in a variety of colours. If you make it in only two colours, 7 x 50g (1,225) is required.
Overlay mosaic technique is used throughout the body of the blanket. Two colours are alternated, one colour per row. A full explanation of how to work overlay mosaic crochet stitches is contained within the pattern but visual learners may wish to familiarise themselves with these two stitches in advance of purchase by viewing them on one of the many videos available on YouTube.
The pattern also includes a detailed tutorial on how to make the double border shown on the blanket. The border tidies up all the yarn tails left over at the end of the work so there are only five ends to sew in even though I’ve used so many colours!
A chart is provided (with ‘x’s) for experienced crocheters but you do not have to read charts to make this blanket, every row is written out in full as well.
The only stitches which may not be familiar to are:
UK:
dc-blo double crochet back loop only
tr-flo treble crochet front loop only
USA:
sc-blo single crochet back loop only
dc-flo double crochet front loop only
If you are a beginner with a little experience, the technique is easy to learn and I am always available by e-mail to help, just message me through my Etsy shop.
