Big Sis Sport
Enjoy the brand new Big Sis Sport for 15% off through Friday, May 10 at midnight PDT, no code needed. And check out the updated Big Sister, now including pockets, which is also on sale!
The OG Big Sister cardigan was one of my first classic sweater designs and it’s amazing what a difference weight can make! While the stitch patterns are the same, this new lighter version is shorter and features side opening set-in pockets. Outside of tacking those pockets down, no finishing is required as the collar is worked alongside the body. You’ll love the feel of this year-round wearable cardigan constructed seamlessly from the top down.
Check out the heavier, longer version here & the children’s version here.

SIZING
Finished Chest Measurement includes Collar overlap. Sweater is shown in Size 3 with approximately 1”/2.5 cm negative ease. To choose your size, begin by finding the two sizes that surround your chest circumference. Then, because this cardigan is designed to be worn open, I recommend referring to the schematic to compare your Upper Arm circumference with the patterned circumference to finalize your size choice so that it fits your arms rather than worrying about your chest as you normally would. You can also check out Big Sister to see the heavier weight version modeled with positive ease at the chest; don’t stress over choosing your size, as several sizes will work just fine for you.
EXPERIENCE
Pattern is written for adventurous beginning level knitters ready to track several stitch patterns while shaping and comfortable with picking up and knitting sts as well as short row shaping (for optional pockets only). Pattern suggests a provisional cast-on but includes instructions provided to replace with a standard cast-on. It also features a cable cast-on & a video tutorial linked in pattern demonstrates this technique if it is new to you. This same tutorial also demonstrates separating the sleeves from body. An additional video tutorial is linked demonstrating the pocket join.
