A ruana is an ingeniously shaped, free-flowing poncho wrap, made from a single piece of fabric, with an open front. it is basically a blanket that you can wear! I love the simplicity of the structure, and how it so quickly and easily adds polish and style to whatever I’m wearing. I designed a Montana-style motif for the edges of this ruana to give it some visual interest, western flair, and a chance for the knitter to play with different color combinations.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
This ruana is made in two sizes that will accommodate a wide range of body scales and shapes. The first size should work for anyone in the 28-40” bust range, with the larger size working well for those in the 40-70” bust range. The length is also adjusted to be longer for the second size, but you can easily make alterations for your height by fiddling with those sections in pattern.

100% Rambouillet Wool (255 yd / 100 g)
MC: 5 (12) skeins in Antler Bone (50 yards for fringe)
CC: 1 (2) skeins in Ranc Bronc (50 yards for fringe)

NOTES
The fronts of the ruana are worked from the bottom up, starting with a garter stitch mosaic section and then continuing in Stockinette Stitch. Stitches are then cast on for the neck and the back is knit from the top down, ending with a matching garter stitch mosaic section. To finish, stitches are picked up along edges and immediately bound off to prevent rolling.
