Out of darkness came the voice of Father Sky and Big Thunder appeared. Waterspouts were released from his wings symbolic of the four elements, four seasons and four directions from which the Little Thunders in his body appear.

As the great flood receded, Mother Earth was first created, the vegetable kingdom and then the first forms of animal life personified by Big Fly at top left. The Bat (top right), sacred messenger of the night spirit, stands guard at the east entrance. The zigzag guard arrows protect Big Thunder. Snakes are sacred and messengers to Mother Earth, frequently utilized in rain dances.
