DISCOUNT - If you buy all three of my published bags this summer a discount will be activated - 3 for the price of 2. This is valid for Linnie Bag, Abbie Backpack and Bille Bumbag until August 31. 2025. If you already have purchased one or two og the patterns, the third will be for free.

This is the third and final pattern in my trio of bags this summer. I knitted the first prototype using the same yarn (2x Line from Sandnes Garn) as in my Linnie bag and one of the Abbie Backpacks. The second version was made using one strand of a more plump cotton blend yarn and one strand of fingering weight sock yarn. The gauge became on spot with this combination as well. You can also use 4 strands of fingering/lace yarn. The purple Abbie Backpack was knitted using that, and it will work out really well for this bag as well.

When you are knitting something like this bag the gauge is not super important, it is more important that the fabric is dense.

I did not create a lining for this bag because of its size really. It cannot contain as much items as the Linne Bag and it will not be weighted down in the same way.

The techniques you need to know is as follows:

  • Long tail cast on
  • Italian cast on
  • Double knit back and forth
  • Decrease right and left double knitting
  • Decrease right and left
  • Increase right and left
  • Regular bind off
  • Italian bind off
  • Knit up stitches
  • Knit one part together with another part row by row
  • Rearrange the double knitting to become a round piece with an opening
  • Attach a zipper
  • Knit an icord

Double knitting can be a bit hard on the hands, but the result is really nice when both sides are supposed to be identical. The back piece can be knitted in the round in stockinette as well. That will also create a solid back piece, but it will be a little rounder in the edges. I have made a video on my youtube channel knit_tech that shows the different on double knitting and knitting in the round.

If you choose to knit in the round instead for doing the double knitting, I recommend using Judys Magic cast on for the bottom, and when picking up stitches see what the total number of stitches is after the 2 set up needles and add one stitch so it adds up in pairs. The gauge might also be a bit different when knitting stockinette in the round.

If you have any comments to this pattern, please let me know. I am adjusting and learning all the time and appreciates feedback.

Happy knitting!
