Binah Bokharan Kippah / Kufi / Pillbox Hat
A special cap for thinking … I’m thinking of peace, of reasoning and reasonable-ness, of rational Judaism and a just and lasting peace in Israel & Palestine. Whether you call it a kippah or yarmulke, kufi, or skullcap, wearing it just might bring greater understanding into your life.
Binah, for understanding …. rational, deductive, and feminine:
“Binah is ‘processed wisdom,’ also known as deductive reasoning. It is davar mitoch davar -- understanding one idea from another idea. … and the rational process that is innate in the person which works to develop an idea fully. Binah is associated with the feminine. This feminine association is not just used amongst the modern movements. ‘For you shall call Understanding a Mother.’ This point was reflected in the Jewish Kabbalistic work Bahir. Classical Jewish texts state Binah yeterah natun l’nashim (”an extra measure of Binah was given to women“).
Bukharan, for its shape, and their skill in the textile arts. Taqiyah (or Uzbek kufi) for Muslims.
KOB/Brioche, because the stitch endlessly fascinates me.
This pattern is available in my Etsy shop. All proceeds from sales of this and other Patterns for Peacebuilders benefit the New Israel Fund and other peacebuilding efforts in Israel-Palestine. More information about the Patterns for Peacebuilders project is available here.
