Birch Bark and Buds
These lace socks were inspired by and created especially for First Quarter Sock Club: Cervalces by Yarnaceous Fibers. To me, the club colorway evokes birch trees in late winter. I designed the motifs to be representative of peeling curls of birch bark and the swelling buds that promise a lush summer canopy.
The sock is knit toe up, beginning with a Turkish cast on.
Line-by-line directions for the shadow wrap short row heel are included for each size, making this pattern accessible to beginner sock knitters and more advanced ones who wish to try a new technique. The magic loop method of small circumference knitting is referenced throughout the pattern, but knitters who wish to use DPNs to knit the socks should have no trouble doing so.
Take note: The socks are mirrored, both in the lace patterning and the colors, so read carefully!
