A bird of prey or predatory bird, also known as raptors, refers to several species of birds that hunt and feed on rodents and other small animals. The term raptor is derived from the Latin word rapere, meaning to seize or take by force. These birds are characterized by keen vision that allows them to detect their prey during flight and powerful talons and beaks.

The type of Bird of Prey I am referring to here was first seen in the Star Trek: Enterprise episode “The Expanse”.

Always on the look for new shawl shapes I altered a star segment shawl recently. When I looked at what I just created I immediately thought of Klingon spacecrafts.

And I was not alone: Sharing the shape outline with my knitting group, everybody suddenly wanted to watch Star Trek again…

Yarn Substitution
Any Aran weight yarn can be used.

Difficulty
This pattern is rated as four (out of five) stars difficulty. The reason is not the construction or the lace pattern used, it’s the management of the small round border in the inner star corners.

If you feel overwhelmed by working them you can simply replace the small round borders by four stitches in garter or seed stitch or omit them completely - in this case, make sure to block the shawl properly to prevent rolling edges.
