Birddog Hunting Mitts
These stylish stranded mitts are a fun accessory for your winter wardrobe. They feature hunting panels in subtle Scottish colors: a matched pair of fingerless mitts showing the joy of birddogs hunting pheasants in the field. This unique design is inspired by English setter rescue in Japan. The mitts are worked bottom-up in the round with thumb gusset shaping and pattern included in the thumb. The stranded work is motivating as each section comes alive, and while requiring close attention to detail, the mitts are worth your effort. These mitts are intermediate-level Fairisle: keeping the featured firearms, foliage and fauna stranded dominant while knitting helps the pattern pop. The floats are sometimes quite long, so techniques of carrying floats loosely and catching them at differing intervals in the back of work are also vital. No intarsia skill is necessary for this design: the color of the dog is the color of the trees in the palm and thumb.
