Birthday Beanie
The cabled beanie is crocheted entirely in slip stitches. Like candles on a birthday cake, twenty braids reach up to different heights, each dwindling to a flame. The braids are worked horizontally - a technique that I invented.
If you ever wondered how to do a horizontal three-stranded cable - here’s an extensive tutorial! And with the twenty cables in the beanie you get ample practice.
The beanie is worked sideways, in one piece, and is seamed at the end. Shaping is done by short rows, even within the braids.
The pattern features two types of written instructions: once with all details and once a short summary for easy reference. The pattern includes extensive tutorials for all new techniques, with detailed step-by-step photos.
Two options are given: a fold-over ribbing and a short ribbing.
