Birthday Cake Amigurumi
I’m calling this an Adventurous Beginner pattern. Why? It’s only made using simple stitches -- the most complex being a basic bobble stitch. But it does involve some unusual materials (cardboard base) and a few attached details. This is a perfect pattern to take your crochet skills to the next level! The finished amigurumi is approximately 4 inches wide by 3 inches tall.
Materials needed:
- Worsted weight acrylic yarn (cream and pink -- or your favorite color for the icing). I used Caron Simply Soft in Cream (60 yards) and Watermelon (27 yards).
- Cotton thread (black). I used Aunt Lydia’s Size 10 Crochet Thread in Black (1 yd).
- Size G crochet hook, 4.00mm
- 9mm black safety eyes
- Yarn or Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Polyfil stuffing
- Pencil
- Thin cardboard/thick paper
Stitches/techniques used in this pattern:
- Magic ring
- Chain stitch
- Single crochet
- Half-double crochet
- Double crochet
- Bobble
- Increasing and decreasing
- Slip stitch
- Working in the Front Loop and Back Loops
- Joining new thread
- Weaving in ends
This pattern does not include basic “how to crochet” steps. It assumes you know how to make the stitches and use the techniques listed above. However, if you are having trouble with the instructions, please contact me and I can share guides I find useful.
I cannot guarantee results when using materials other than what is listed above.
If you have trouble with the pattern instructions, please feel free to email me on the email listed in the pattern at the end, or send me a message here on Ravelry. I am always available for troubleshooting problems, and love to hear feedback!
