Made flat, from the sole up, these booties can be made from small bits of stash yarn, as long as they are about the same thickness.
Samples used 8 ply scraps, but 4 ply used double or worsted
can also work, providing the tension gauge is met.

The construction is unusual and is all garter stitch, no purling.

Options for an added to edge and a roll-over cuff are given, plus instructions are given for a 3 needle cast off, picking up stitches for an optional top band and making twisted cord ties, with a tip on how to thread a needle with yarn.

These bootees would suit an adventurous beginner who knows how to work “knit front and back” increases and “knit 2 together” decreases. If made in a single colour or a multicolour yarn it would be simpler by avoiding having to change yarns.

You will need a pair of 3.75 mm (US 5) needles and a spare needle 2 sizes bigger for casting off, plus 4 stitch markers and a tapestry / wool needle.
