For as long as I can remember, I have loved books and reading. Graceling by Kristin Cashore is one of my favorites, so when Debi of Blue Skin Yarns and I connected over it, of course a collaboration was born!

Bitterblue’s Wrap is the third of three designs based on the trilogy and the final installment of The Graceling Collection. It’s named for the third book’s main character, a young but clear-eyed queen. It seemed to me Bitterblue would choose an accessory whose blend of innocence and maturity mirrored her own.

Thanks to some simple shaping and texture, this eye-catching wrap looks much harder to pull off than it actually is. There’s not even any grafting, even though the wrap is knit in two halves— the straightforward three-needle bind-off has joining covered. Generous and snuggly, Bitterblue’s Wrap is a great way to show off some hand-dyed skeins, since the main color in particular can handle speckles and variegation as easily as solids and tonals. You can even use more than two colors, and the pattern includes a link to a free worksheet to help you plan.

The main lace and texture stitches are both written and charted, and Bitterblue’s Wrap has been tech edited and test knit, so you can cast on with confidence!

NEEDLES
Two pairs of US 4 / 3.5 mm circular needles, or size needed to obtain gauge; 40” / 100 cm or longer circular needles are recommended to accommodate large number of stitches
Optional: Additional needle (circular, straight, or DPN) of the same or similar size for three-needle bind-off. You may also use the non-working end of one of the pairs holding the live stitches.

NOTIONS
4 stitch markers, 4 additional stitch markers (optional), tapestry needle

GAUGE
20.5 stitches and 30.5 rows = 4” / 10 cm in stockinette stitch after firm blocking. Gauge is not crucial but will affect yardage used and final dimensions.
