The Black Mountain Hat is a companion piece to my Black Mountain Cowl. The original design was created in response to Anni Albers’ dictum that an artist or designer should have to “start at zero” at least once in their career. The initial colorwork design was created during a 14-day quarantine following a spring break trip to Italy with my art and graphic design students. COVID-19 feels like a “start at zero” moment for so many people.
