Blackberrying in the rain
This scarf is easy to knit, suitable for someone moving on from beginner patterns, or as a quick palate-cleanser for the more experienced knitter.
The scarf starts with a provisional crochet cast-on at the bottom point and works its way upwards in garter stitch, increasing to form a wide shallow triangle with a looped edging. Once the centre triangle is complete, the edging stitches are picked up and a knitted-on border is worked, attached to the edge loops as if they were live stitches.
The pattern is especially suited to colourful variegated yarn as the changing row length of the main body and the shorter rows of the border allow random pooling to occur where it will. The garter stitch body forms a delightfully squishy scarf with a simple but effective edging.
The pattern has fully-written instructions. A chart is also included for the knitted-on border although it is not necessary to use charts to work this scarf. The crochet hook is required only for the crochet cast-on so the size is for guidance only - a hook a size or two either side would be acceptable if that is what you have available.
You need to be able to: work a crochet cast-on (link is given to online tutorial), work basic increases and decreases (YO, KFB, K2tog, K2tog through back loop), work simple lace from either written or charted instructions (both given)
